Honored as an Image of Distinction in the 2012 Nikon Small World Photomicrophotography Competition, it was taken by James H. Nicholson and Hanian Lang PhD, and Sylvia Galloway PhD of MUSC & NOAA/NOS/NCCOS, Department of Pathology & Lab Medicine, Coral Collaborative Research Facility, Charleston, SC, using confocal microscopy.
