VSS Enterprise Makes First Crewed Flight
Virgin Galactic achieved a significant milestone on July 15, 2010, as the team marches toward the first solo flights of VSS Enterprise (SpaceShipTwo). For the first time, VSS Enterprise, which was built by Scaled Composites, flew with crew on board. Crew members were test pilots Peter Siebold and Michael Alsbury.

As planned, in this third flight in captive carry configuration, the spaceship remained attached to VMS Eve (WhiteKnightTwo) for the duration of the flight. Numerous combined vehicle systems tests were conducted. VMS Eve crew members were Mark Stucky, Peter Kalogiannis and Brian Maisler.

In addition, and also for the first time, the crew members on board VSS Enterprise evaluated all of the spaceship’s systems and functions from end to end in the air.

The flight, which departed the Mojave Air and Spaceport in California, lasted for six hours, 12 minutes.
